edition iv letter from the editors

By Tate Schmergel and Katherine Barden

As we reach our one year anniversary, we are able to put into perspective the evolution and progress MASH has made as a team, a publication and overarching creative community. Our twenty-one-person team is composed of creatives, distinctive personalities and uniquely qualified individuals from all walks of life – and in this diversity we find ourselves constantly pushing the boundaries and exploring new possibilities of how to expand our scope. As the editors-in-chief, we have seen this magazine flourish beyond expectations – and we cannot wait for what comes next.

With Edition IV, our final edition of the spring semester, we appreciate the culture of Los Angeles fashion and marvel at the talent that USC student designers have to offer. And so we introduce: The Local Edition.

From a student designer showcase through the USC Photo Club, to a clothing sale to benefit Project Ropa – a non-profit organization that provides clothing and transitional services to the homeless population in L.A. – to screen printing our first-ever round of merch right here in South Central, we have fully committed to and relied on our neighbors throughout this edition cycle.

Stories in Edition IV focus on everything from the business of fashion tourism, to the coastal duel between New York City and Los Angeles, to our first-ever audio interview. As you engage with the voices, creators and visionaries of Los Angeles, we hope you feel inspired to create in a time when we need it most.

As always, we are thankful for our incredibly diligent team and our innovative contributors. The Local Edition is about all of us. We hope these pieces help you feel the power of our creative community.

HAGS!
