In the final episode of season 4, Sara and Morgan talk about what it means to be the Ultimate Outsider. They discuss their personal relationships to fashion – from the grueling times of middle school, the discovery of Brandy Melville, and an addiction to fast fashion – to finding their own style, and how they became confident in the idea of dressing for themselves. They also talk about the purposes fashion continuously serves: how it provides an outlet for creative expression within a highly industrialized and regulated industry, and how to navigate this as a person who is going through constant evolution and self-discovery. They move onto a discussion of Morgan’s very own journey with fashion – from her desire to start a blog, to navigating feelings of living in a completely curated world – wanting to fit in while also wanting to stay true to her identity. As the episode comes to an end, Sara and Morgan converse about some of the most important lessons they have learned as their relationships to fashion have changed.
During the second episode of this season, Sara and Diego dive into the power of the stylist. Who even are stylists, and how did they come to be? What do they do? Through a close examination of some of their favorite stylists and the clients they work with, the campaigns they have produced, and the general styling methods they follow, Sara and Diego discuss what styling means to them, especially as it relates to and even presents as a sort of curatorial power. They delve into the art that is involved in styling and styling as a form of storytelling, touching on the significance that garment and accessory choices may have on an individual’s way of presenting themselves to the world. They talk about styling celebrities and luxury brands, versus other smaller, more intimate forms of styling yourself and embodying your ideals through your fashion. In a world that is so perfectly curated, Sara and Diego end the episode considering what the future of styling will look like as fashion continues to function as a highly politicized performative space, while also existing as one of the ultimate realms for self-expression.
