letter from the editor

Edition Seven has been the most significant transition and growth period we have ever seen at the MASH Magazine here at USC … WOW! Our first podcast series, “MASHCast” , is now live on Spotify with episodes releasing every two Fridays. Our team expanded to a staff of FIFTY TWO — nearly double our fall 2020 staff size — with new roles including Creative Director and Social Creative Chair, as well as a full-fledged team of writers. Our new website is launching while we have finally settled into our own at USC and found our grounds as the premier journal for business and fashion. All the while, this is my first semester leading MASH without Kat Barden, who is studying across the pond :’).

So yeah, there’s a lot “new” to report.

The development of Edition VII: The Legacy Edition began visually. We stripped down to our roots in journalism and determined how to zero in on precisely what we do here at MASH. Our black and white motif alludes to this modification and puts our journalistic content front and center. From there, we built on the theme of Legacy — taking a moment to examine and appreciate the iconic people, designs and moments that have shaped the fashion industry and the history in the making right now. The final product is an editorial masterpiece that seamlessly explores the revival of iconic products through marketing and repositioning, leading queer figures in the fashion industry, nepotism in modeling, legacy brands and their implications, and so much more.

I don’t have enough room in my heart for all of the love for this MASH team. Each individual is talented beyond imagination and makes our publication whole. When Kat and I started MASH in the spring of 2020, we never could have imagined this moment… So thank you — to our readers for supporting us, to our friends and family for inspiring us, to our staff for making us what we are, and to our VPs for guiding every decision and making it all possible.

As always, stay in touch, and there’s more to come.
