letter from the editor

Oh, the gears they turn … And as life post-pandemic speeds up, so does work at MASH.

In a short six weeks, there is so much to report: Three new MASHcast episodes, two intra-MASH social events, an edition release party, a flea market, a speaker event, and our first e-newsletter. The Heritage Merch Capsule — which included a hoodie, playing cards, trucker cap and a shot glass — also dropped across all four MASH campuses after months of inception, receiving 70+ orders. Now, MASH hoodies can be repped from coast to coast!

Edition Eight: In Bloom was essentially an evolved Edition Seven, meaning our creative ideas and development from Legacy continued into this cycle. The black and white journalistic motif that rebranded MASH has blossomed; color and floral elements now bloom onto graphics, web content and social media. Editorially, this theme explores expression and beauty in the fashion industry under a lens of renaissance. The fabulous new staff of writers came together to take on this challenge and produced more than a dozen distinct stories covering topics such as gender expression, NFTs in the fashion space and engineering’s impact on clothing.

As our fourth semester on campus comes to an end, I would like to recognize the arduous and wonderful efforts of our graduating seniors. Julia Gregory (VP of Operations) and MacKenzie Boatman (Operations, Recruitment & Outreach Chair) have been with us since the beginning. Not a single event, recruitment cycle, involvement fair or email correspondence would have been possible without this outstanding duo. Laurel Parker (Finance Chair) created a system of tight financial controls over our publication and oversaw the massive expansion of MASH, managed merch purchases, and yes, handled reimbursement after reimbursement. Sofia Zografos (DEI Chair) coordinated our largest philanthropic event last spring, pushed us to seek new ways to incorporate diverse perspectives into our content and never showed up without a smile. Kat and I thank each one of you for shaping MASH and leaving your foundational imprint. You will be dearly missed.

This spring proved that we continue to establish ourselves as a publication with a purpose. So thank you, as always, to the outstanding team of Vice Presidents who never cease to amaze with your constant dedication to MASH and our creative efforts. Thank you to our staff of devoted MASHies, and thank you to everyone who has ever engaged with us on any level. We adore you.

Have a wonderful summer, and read on.
