A Moment For the Met

While the Met Gala is still several months away, the anticipation for this year's spectacle has already begun. The Met Gala, the fashion world’s annual extravaganza, is a charity event and fundraiser for New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institution, which traditionally marks the debut of the annual exhibition. While we are still eagerly waiting for the dress code to be made public, this year’s hosts have been announced. Alongside Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, the hosts consist of Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams. LeBron James was also announced as honorary chair. Additionally, the museum announced this year’s Costume Institute’s exhibition, which will be “‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’” which encompasses elements drawn on inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.” The exhibition will focus on exploring the lasting style of Black men within the context of dandyism through garments, paintings, photographs, etc.

NFL x Veronica Beard

The National Football League (NFL), a longstanding force in American culture, is becoming increasingly gender-inclusive following a surge in viewership last season—likely driven by global icon and singer Taylor Swift, a Kansas City Chiefs fan. With her colossal fan base following her from the stage to the stadium, Swift captures attention on every front, including her game-day outfits. As the NFL has seen a rise in fandom, change is needed. For ages, team spirit has catered solely to men, leaving women struggling to find and patiently waiting for looks to compliment their style while supporting their team. WWD reports that this long-standing gap is finally being addressed. The New York-based label Veronica Beard is poised to make a bold fashion statement for team spirit, seizing the opportunity to bring female-focused style to the football field. Beard has partnered with the NFL as another place for women to bring a luxurious look to the pitch.
